Balintore is just north of Kirriemuir, County Angus and is situated just the other side of the Highland Boundary Fault Line, the tectonic feature which divides The Highlands from Lowland Scotland. This atmospheric, sparsely populated settlement, dominated by the Victorian Gothic, Balintore Castle, sits high above a dark narrow glen frequented by sheep, deer, buzzards, foxes and feral cats. When The Castle was in it`s hey-day the area must have been bustling with human life also. These cottages stand as a reminder of such times.
I`ve cycled and driven past this spot countless times but it was only in the Spring of this year that it occurred to me to portray the cottages in a painting - before they fall down completely !
