Oil on canvas. 100 x 80cm. SOLD
This is the largest painting I`ve done for a while. First shown at my Solo exhibition at Bank Street Gallery, Autumn 2017, the picture then moved to the open show at Dundee Art Society`s Roseangle Gallery, where it was awarded the Jean Craig Trophy. Currently "Le Puy en Velay" can be viewed at Glamis Gallery, near Forfar.
More on Le Puy en Velay later but suffice to say that my 2017 visit to the town,in the Haute Loire region of France, was truly memorable. This view depicts a hot July morning overlooking the town from the statue of the Notre-Dame de France (located atop one of the vertigo-inducing volcanic stacks which add so much to the town`s character).
More paintings of France are in the studio as I write, including a couple of views of Herisson, Auvergne and Olliergues, Haute Loire (my experience is that there`s something worth painting in practically every town and village in the whole country!).
