This oil painting depicts a scene form Autumn a couple of years ago. Ballindarg, is a few miles south of Kirriemuir in Angus. For me, there is something "Classical" about this composition; the dusky shadows and the way the bales are picked out by the afternoon sunlight; the disposition of light and dark in the picture remind me of Constable`s depictions of rural life. The foreground in a painting is of great interest to me as it is the the "place" upon which the viewer is standing. In this picture I`m hoping to evoke the brittle feeling of the stubble beneath your feet.
